The 2017 Churchill Institute for Global Engagement “American Summer Leadership Program”

An Academic, Cultural, Entrepreneurial, and Leadership Summer Experience at Westminster College
Fulton, Missouri (USA) 23-31 July 2017

Students will be introduced to American culture, entrepreneurship, and leadership through this intensive, yet fun academic program at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Students will study advanced English (as used in context in university studies).  Students will also learn problem-solving skills in transnational contexts. Students may receive an optional one hour of elective college credit from Westminster College for successfully participating in the program. Students will gain theoretical and applied expertise in crafting arguments, team-building, leadership, debate, and analysis at a prestigious American college.  Students will learn from Westminster faculty and sample college life on a high quality liberal arts campus in a comfortable American Midwestern setting.

American Summer Leadership Program at a Glance

When:  23-31 July 2017 (9 days)

Program Fee:  $1000* (includes tuition for program, room, and board; *optional 1 hour of college elective credit from Westminster College is an additional $100 for high school students and $275 for college students.)

Faculty:  Professor and Assistant Dean Kurt Jefferson, and other faculty with expertise in American government, history, Asian culture, and transnational studies.  Guest lecturers from American business, entrepreneurship, and other sectors of government and society will speak to students during the9-day program as well. Speakers from past years include former United States Army General Byron Bagby, American liaison to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and several others.

Visa and Travel Information for Summer Program


A B-2 visa is a tourist visa that is valid only for six months and STUDENTS COMING FOR OUR SUMMER PROGRAM should apply for a B-2 Visa. It is not valid for students intending to study at an academic institution for the school year.

Once you are accepted to the Summer Program, we will send you an invitation letter from Westminster College., which you should take along for your visa interview.

Travel Itinerary

The Summer Program will commence on 23rd July and continue through 31st July. So we expect students to arrive on 22nd July 2017. All air travel should be through the Columbia, Regional Airport, Kansas City International Airport or St. Louis Lambert International Airport.  A shuttle will transport the students to and from airports.

American Summer Leadership Program 2017 students can land at one of three airports in Columbia, St.Louis or Kansas City. However, students are encouraged to purchase tickets landing at St.Louis Lambert International Airport. The travel time to Fulton from that airport is about two hours. Columbia Regional Airport- Columbia Regional Airport is the closest airport from Westminster College which takes approximately half an hour drive. This airport is currently served by American airlines. For more information, please see,
